This course is designed to engage students to critically look at soil as the central link in the function and creation of the terrestrial environment by examining the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of soil. Soils are a natural body, engaged in dynamic interaction with the atmosphere above and the strata below that influences the planet¿s climate and hydrological cycle, and serves as the primary habitat for a versatile community of living organisms. This course will incorporate how soils influence climate change, pollution control, human expropriation of natural resources, and the prospects for harmonious and sustainable development through examining field soil pits and a field trip. This course will introduce soil genesis and classification and will act as the pre-cursor to Geology of Soils.
